Shepreth Wildlife Park – Educational School Trips & Outreach Programmes

Bring your scchool to  Shepreth Wildlife Park for an educational and fun-packed school trip to see and learn about the animals! We also provide educational outreach programmes and can come to your school.

Protocol and Guidelines for standard Education Session
(Also applies to general public sessions, parties and group bookings)

Staff present in Education Session

This will comprise of one Education Officer and one volunteer.

Size of class
Sessions can hold a minimum of 10 students and a maximum of 80 students.

Location
On-site Education Sessions are held in the Education Centre.

Health and Safety
Guidance and safety information is given on arrival, to each visiting group by an Education Officer.

Animal Handling
Staff and volunteers are trained in the safe handling of each species used in talks, with animal welfare and health and safety requirements being a priority. Animals are held in carry crates behind the screened area next to the stage, prior to handling. A rotation based handling format ensures individual animals are not over stressed.

Timing and duration of sessions
Training is given to all Education staff and volunteers in how to time various aspects of the session. Training is also given on how to work through interpreters, and with special needs children and adults.

Session guidelines are available for the complimentary on-site 40-minute sessions, but can also be expanded upon for the one hour sessions and Outreach Programme.
