Jared – Taiko Drumming Workshops for Schools

Taiko drumming is a fun and energetic style of Japanese ensemble drumming.

My workshops are a great way of getting young people involved in Taiko drumming for Cultural Days, International Language Days, Japan Days and music lessons with a difference – or just to get the class working together as a team! Pupils get to try out something very different from other music lessons and learn a bit about Japanese culture and history in the process. I find that the pupils get really involved in the drumming. They enjoy the workshops and leave with a sense of achievement. Within the time allowed, pupils can showcase the piece they learn to parents or the rest of the school. To enquire or book please see my availability below.

Since starting Taiko in 2007, I have gained substantial experience in performing, as well as teaching and leading classes and workshops both in schools and with adults. During my training, I travelled to Japan to train with Yoshikazu Fujimoto of world renowned Japanese Taiko group ‘Kodo’, and have also been taught by Liz Walters of Tamashii Daiko, Miyuki Williams of Mugenkyo, Tomida Kazuaki and Shogo Yoshi (formerly of Kodo), Masashi Itohara of Oedo Sukeroku Taiko, Akemi Jige of Hono-O-Daiko, Tiffany Tamarabuchi and many more. I teach regular Taiko classes and workshops for both adults and in schools at both primary and secondary level.
