The principal aim of all of our history workshops is to give your children the means to adopt the mind-set of people from the period to gain a deep insight into the reasons for historical events... and to be challenged to consider the likely consequences of those events.
Every child in your group is given the opportunity to role-play using robust, kinaesthetic resources in child sized settings. Many fantastic photo opportunities are presented for your evidence portfolio of engagement, inclusion and learning.
Our sessions aimed at specific Key Stage One and Key stage Two history topics are peppered with whole-group activities and scenarios, with a wide range of incidental and cross-curricular learning opportunities.
KEY STAGE 2 HISTORY WORKSHOPS
STONE AGE
The transition from hunter gatherer to settlement and farming is told in the context of the inhabitants of the Orkney Islands. Guided by "Seal-bit", they build and role play in a Mesolithic tent shelter and in the primitive boat of a flint trader, using reproduction Mesolithic tools and clothing.
Children see how developments in technology led to a revolution in lifestyle. They build and inhabit a full sized replica of a Skara Brae Neolithic house and use a hand quern to grind grain, before investigating methods of lifting, moving and raising a large sarsen to create part of a stone circle.
