Lotherton offers a variety of school workshops for KS1 and KS2.
For KS1 children, our popular Meet Florence Nightingale workshop gives children a chance to meet the famous nurse and take a tour around Lotherton Hall. They then practice their nursing skills and engage with genuine Victorian museum objects as they help Florence pack her suitcase ready to go to the Crimea. We also offer various topic day workshops where we can provide activities to inspire creativity and learning based on investigation and exploration. Workshops can be adapted to suit a variety of related topics that pupils may be covering in school. Some ideas include ‘Nature Detectives’, ‘Seeing the Seasons’, ‘Houses and Homes’, ‘Materials and Patterns’ and ‘Around the World’.
For KS2 children, we offer an engaging Second World War Evacuee role play workshop where children come to Lotherton dressed as evacuees from the city evacuated to the big house in the country. Children get a chance to explore real objects from the Second World War while practicing their Morse Code skills and First Aid. In our First World War Hospital workshop, children explore how Lotherton changed during this period and became a hospital for convalescing soldiers. Children go around the house and explore how exactly the house was altered and adapted for a hospital while also getting the chance to engage with genuine First World War objects to develop their knowledge, understanding and empathy of life beyond the trenches.
