COVID News

Exciting news! We are aiming to re-open the sanctuary to the public on 12th April (COVID-19 restrictions and weather permitting).

We will be studying the government guidance carefully and plan to have the sanctuary tickets available to pre-order on our website from the end of March, when we will have more guidance and certainty. We will continue to commit to providing our visitors with a fun, family-friendly, and COVID-secure day out and for this reason our safety measures will remain in place when we do re-open.

The team are currently building a brand new undercover, outdoor seating area for Max's Cafe to help with social distancing. We have also extended our kitchen so we will be able serve our full, tasty menu for you!

We are relieved to finally be able to welcome our amazing supporters back to spend time with our wonderful residents, and help us secure the future of the sanctuary.

Visitor Information

Hopefield Animal Sanctuary sits on 53 acres of beautiful countryside in the heart of Brentwood, Essex. The sanctuary currently cares for over 500 sick, unwanted and mistreated animals. Our mission is to help animals in need and provide education and awareness for humane behavior towards all animals around the world. Our animals live out their lives at Hopefield in peace, surrounded by love and receiving the best care.

School Visits

Here at Hopefield our mission is to provide a safe and loving home for abused, abandoned, and neglected animals. We aim to promote caring and humane attitudes to animals around the world, and we believe that a key part of this goal is education. We're excited to offer new opportunities for pupils from Reception to Year 7 here at the Sanctuary, including talks, tours, and educational activities.

Our Education Officer, James, organises fun, fulfilling and educational visits for students and lifelong learners alike. He is a qualified teacher, and after 6 years in the profession, he’s hoping to put his skills and experience to good use here at the sanctuary.

He started volunteering with us in July 2018, but has been in his new role with us since the beginning of September 2019.

James’ favourite thing about working for Hopefield is being surrounded by so many wonderful animals - “It definitely makes a change from being stuck in a classroom all day!”

Fun fact: He's been a passionate vegan for 12 years, and is currently studying MA Museums & Galleries in Education at UCL’s Institute of Education.

The cost of our educational visits are £4 per child, which includes the tour of the sanctuary, along with educational activities as well (should you want them).

To enquire about school visits, please contact our Education Officer, James, by emailing us using the contact form below.
