More about this Workshop/Service and the Provider

Big Wheel is a theatre in education company that uses theatre and drama to train, teach and inspire. We absolutely love Shakespeare, but we know that his work can sometimes be a little inaccessible for students.  So, we offer two different interactive workshops that will excite and inspire your students!

Introduction to Shakespeare

This workshop is perfect for students who are new to Shakespeare. It’s packed full of fun facts about his comedies, histories and tragedies. Along the way students meet the characters from A Midsummer Night’s Dream on a talk show, compete in the gameshow 'Three Steps to Heaven"  and re-enact our own version of Hamlet.  This fun and fast-paced show will show your students just how great William Shakespeare really was!

Who’s it for? We have versions for Key stage 2 and upwards and last between 75 and 90 minutes.  It can be performed for a maximum of 60 KS2/ KS3 students and 100 KS4 students.

Shakespeare and Tragedy

This is a more advanced workshop that focuses on the conventions of Shakespeare’s tragedies. Plays featured include Macbeth, Hamlet, Othello and Romeo & Juliet.  There’s a surprise visit from three weird sisters, a disastrous banquet scene and a tragic death that all help to illustrate how relevant and universal Shakespeare’s themes are – even in the 21st century.

We use examples from Macbeth, Romeo and Juliet, Othello and Hamlet to illustrate the conventions of tragedy. However, if you are studying a different text we can relate the learning points to this as well, giving students a richer understanding of the play they are studying.

Who’s it for? Students studying Shakespeare either at GCSE or A Level.  It can be performed for a maximum of 100 students and lasts for 90 minutes.

A bit more about Big Wheel

We work in schools, museums and libraries, healthcare and business. For schools we have a repertoire of workshop performances covering English and French language learning, English literature, Sustainability and Climate Change. We work at all levels and can tailor our workshops to suit the needs of the school.

In other settings our work is more bespoke and we have created a range of programmes including historical storytelling in museums, service improvement in healthcare and presentation skills in business. We specialise in working closely with our clients to create an impactful and entertaining learning experience – and we have a lot of fun along the way.

Testimonials

Thank you for your performance last week. The students really enjoyed it and year 7 were buzzing in English afterwards. I do hope you can come to us again.
Yr 7 Teacher, Secondary School, Sheringham, Norfolk

It was excellent and a good mix of fun and information. A good way to introduce Shakespeare as it has motivated the pupils to find out more/ read for themselves.
Yr 6 Teacher, Primary School, Surrey

I think they did a great job. They were very good actors and gave a clear view of the Tragedies and their most important aspects. They were quite funny too!
