School children will love a day out in nature's outdoor classroom.

Wicken Fen National Nature Reserve provides an amazing educational resource and inspiring backdrop for an adventurous day out. School groups have exclusive use of our Education Area, which includes fen and woodland habitats as well as two large shelters that are essential when the weather turns!

Our Learning Team offers a range of activities for children of all ages, from Early Years Foundation Stage through to Key Stage 5. Class teachers can choose from a range of activities such as Pond Dipping, Minibeasts and Fen Cottage (social history), all of which are linked to the National Curriculum and adapted to suit the age and abilities of every group.

Wicken Fen is the National Trusts oldest Nature Reserve, with it's origins dating back to 1899. There is a, beautifully, preserved old pumping windmill that was moved to the site in 1956. You walk around the Fen on raised Boardwalks which is great. The area is so peaceful and tranquil and there is the opportunity to see an abundance of wildlife.
