More about this Workshop/Service and the Provider

I am extremely passionate about the power of storytelling to stimulate speaking, listening and motor skills across the curriculum.   I endeavour to make my sessions accessible for all and have experience working with pupils with additional needs.  I believe storytelling is vital in inspiring speaking skills, creativity and inclusivity amongst EAL pupils.  I work flexibly across all key stages and can deliver my fun interactive storytelling sessions comfortably to class size groups, multiple classes and whole school groups.

  • Fun, interactive, accessible stories around a choice of themes with follow up activities, games and resources for teachers.
  • An (optional) culmination assembly during which each class will share the stories they have learned.

  • I am happy to liaise with teachers in advance and deliver topic appropriate stories from my extensive repertoire

Testimonials

Sean Cooney, also of our favourite folk group The Young’uns, was in school wearing his storytelling hat (not literally, although I’m sure he’s got one!) and he worked with all classes and year groups across the day. The children were enthralled by his tales from all over the world (some true, some not so true) and enjoyed taking part in the interactive parts with real enthusiasm. Storytelling is such an important and enjoyable way of developing literacy skills, especially speaking and listening, that it was great to have a focus on this. Having spent the whole day with the children Sean then gave a training session to staff in order to develop our storytelling skills and to help us plan opportunities within lessons. I know that some classes have included storytelling in their lessons over the past couple of days – including one PE session!

A memorable experience which helped us celebrate World Book Day. All children, staff and parents thoroughly enjoyed listening to and joining in with the many stories. It was fantastic to see how captivated the children were throughout all year groups.
