More about this Workshop/Service and the Provider

Fun Food Academy, established in 1998 by Sarah Maxwell, sets out to give children the opportunity to experience the world of food. Having cooked with over two thousand 4-11 year olds, we know that children are fascinated by food and love the fun of preparing, cooking and, in most cases, eating it. When children come to cook with the Fun Food Academy they come to take part in a complete cooking experience.

The Workshop

The structured format of the National Curriculum provides little opportunity for children to cook in primary schools. Learning about food, cooking and healthy eating is a fundamental part of every child’s education. Fun Food Academy offers primary schools one-off cooking sessions specifically designed for individual year group classes. Elements of the National Curriculum are combined with cooking skills and techniques to provide the children with a unique and relevant learning experience. Tasting and discovery activities as well as themed cooking sessions for the Ancient Greeks, Victorians, Aztecs, Egyptians, to name a few, put the icing on the cake for many topics covered in the curriculum. Printed recipes and worksheets are also provided.

Fun Food Academy run a five week cookery course for primary schools which is designed to teach basic methods and simple cooking techniques to children in KS1 and KS2. The course provides one lesson per week. Each lesson lasts for 1½ hours and is suitable for an entire class at one time. On the course days, Fun Food will arrive early to set up in the classroom for the cooking lesson to start when the children arrive at the beginning of the day. (Afternoon sessions are set up over lunch). Each week the children prepare and cook a recipe, take part in a discovery food session and take home their food, packaged with a recipe sheet. Primary schools run the Fun Food Cooking Course as part of a serious commitment to teaching children the basics in food preparation, cooking and healthy eating.
