More about this Workshop/Service and the Provider

I am a storyteller, singer and songwriter from North London with a passion for all things story and an ever growing repertoire of tales; traditional, modern and original.

As a former English Teacher and Literacy specialist with over ten years experience, I design and deliver bespoke workshops for schools and museums to spark creativity and imagination. Workshops include storytelling, story-building, poetry writing and performing, characterisation and the power of rhyme.

I am of Irish heritage and have a fondness for Celtic tales, pesky pixies and Gothic ghosts although I tell stories from all over the world. I am a classically trained singer and, drawing on my Celtic roots, like to incorporate original music into my storytelling. I would describe my style as energetic, silly and wild!

Florence Nightingale Workshop

Storytelling can be a powerful tool for bringing the curriculum and your topics to life, including this one for Florence Nightingale and can be adapted for all ages.

Here some curriculum topics that I provide workshops for:

  • Florence Nightingale / Mary Seacole  / Ada Lovelace

  • Great Fire of London

This is a clip from my version of an old Icelandic Story, The Red Headed Whale, performed for the Myths and Legends Festival at Museum of London Docklands.

"An amazing storyteller came to our school this week. She told us the story of The Minotaur using actions and expressions. We did an opposites exercise and created our own monster stories in groups. At the end of the day we had to stand up and tell the story of our monster. It really gave me lots of confidence. I did not think I would be able to stand up and perform a story with actions but I did. I would love Emily to come in again. She was really inspiring."
Freya Yr 7 Birchwood High School

"Our students loved your session. They all said it was their favourite part of the day. You were so engaging and had everyone on the edge of their seats!”
Mr James, KS3 Literacy Resources Manager

"Emily crafted a Māori storytelling session for our programme of half term activities about Oceania. She brought so much energy to the stories, keeping families hanging on her every word and encouraging them to join in with actions and singing to bring the room alive."
Olivia Bladen, Family Programmer , Royal Academy of Arts 2018
